Several Lady Cats stepped up to lead the way in Georgia Northwestern’s win Friday night over visiting Hiwassee College (TN) in the Rumble In Rossville at the Rossville Athletic Complex (R.A.C.), 25-13, 25-14, 25-17.
“It’s a win that will really help our team heading into play next week as the season really starts to heat up,” said Georgia Northwestern Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Carrie Powell. “We have several big matches we have our eyes on this season and this win tonight really helped us see a little of what is yet to come.
When you have so many freshmen, you are looking for a combination that works. Tonight worked pretty well. We have a long way to go.”
Sophomore Holly Mount (Heritage) brought the hammer as she dropped seven kill shots on the visiting Tigers in the three-games-to-none match sweep. North Murray alum and Lady Cat freshman Casey Chapman pounded through five kills of her own in the win.
Freshman Layna Jenkins (Ridgeland) served up five aces on the night and added a pair of kills. Fellow freshman Victoria Sprouse (Ringgold) locked in for four aces and four kills of her own. Rachel McGill (Ringgold) also added four aces, as well as 17 assists in the first win of the young season.
The Rumble In Rossville showcased high school volleyball throughout the day before the collegiate conclusion. Grace, Collegedale, and Oakwood Academies took part in a tri-match to get things started at The R.A.C.
The Lady Cats return to action Monday night in Chattanooga, Tennessee as they travel to McGilvray Gymnasium at Tennessee Temple to take on the Lady Crusaders in a best-of-five match.
