Mary P. Essex, 89, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.

A native and lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Mrs. Essex had been employed with the Orange Grove Center and the Chambliss Home for many years and she was of the Baptist faith.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Essex, sons, Billy, Leroy and David Essex, seven brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her children, Becky Cope, JoAnn Hampton, Joyce Powell, Donnie Essex, Libby Anderson, Rosa Petty, Bobby Carpenter, and Larry Essex; 27 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Donald Powell officiating.  Burial will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4–8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
