Circuit Court Judge Jackie Bolton said Wednesday she will not seek re-election in 2014.
Judge Bolton has served on the Circuit Court bench for over 15 years. Previously, she served as Juvenile Court judge.
Licensed to practice law in 1981, she is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Nashville School of Law. She is a fellow of the Tennessee and Chattanooga bar foundations.
Active in numerous professional and civic activities, Judge Bolton said she plans to continue volunteer work while enjoying retirement with her husband, Tom Bolton.
She said, "It has been my privilege to have been elected to serve the people of Hamilton County and Tennessee. I leave the bench with profound appreciation and respect for my colleagues on the bench and my fellow lawyers. I hope to have given back in some small way to the community which has been so good to me. I especially thank my wonderful staff for years of hard work and loyalty."
Judge Bolton came to Chattanooga 40 years ago to work for Channel 9 as a news reporter and later with Channel 3 as a reporter and anchor.
Her present term expires September 2014.
She said, "I am announcing today so that potential candidates have time to run for this judgeship."
