University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore Clare Latham (Cordova, Tenn.) was selected the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Latham was instrumental in both of Chattanooga’s goals last week in the Mocs’ win over Tennessee Tech on the road. She scored UTC’s first goal to tie the match early in the second period then assisted on the eventual game winner as her shot was blocked and pitched to teammate Melanie Arredondo (Tampico, Mexico) who scored her second goal of the year.
The midfielder leads the team in scoring (10 pts) and goals (4) and has two assists. She is tied for fifth in the league in scoring and fourth for points per game while her four goals puts her fourth in the SoCon.
An Early Childhood Education major, Latham earned a perfect 4.0 GPA each semester last year and was named to the UTC Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. She was also named to the Southern Conference Honor Roll for Academics last year.
The Mocs are 4-3 on the year and open Southern Conference action Friday evening against Davidson at Finley Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and admission is FREE.
Also nominated for student-athlete of the week were: Appalachian State volleyball player Jess Keller, Citadel volleyball player Erin Bucherl, Davidson women’s soccer player Jenni Isaac, Elon women’s soccer player Kate Murphy, Georgia Southern volleyball player Katalin Minnerly and Western Carolina volleyball player Addy George.
