Erlanger Offers Classes And Events For Oct. 7-12

The Erlanger schedule of classes and events for Oct. 7-12 includes family planning classes and free cardiovascular screenings during Date to C.A.R.E on Oct. 12.  Registration is required.  For more information on our classes and events, call Erlanger HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465), seven days a week from 8 a.m. until midnight.  HealthLink Plus is a free membership program open to adults 18 and older.  

Monday, Oct. 7:

Bariatric Support Group
5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Erlanger Chattanooga Lifestyle Center
Bariatric Support Group meetings are for individuals scheduled to have Bariatric surgery or who have already had weight loss surgery.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465) for more information. 

Childbirth Education
5:30 – 8:45 p.m.
Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road)
This childbirth education class/series is designed for expectant parents and taught by experienced OB nurses.  These classes include stages of labor, relaxation and labor support techniques, hospital procedures, pain management options, after birth and home care for moms and in-hospital care for newborns.  There will also be time for questions and answers.  Registration fee is $75.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465) to register.  

Diabetes Education Class
1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Erlanger Chattanooga Lifestyle Center
This class will explore ways to manage diabetes.  Call 778-9400 for more information on physician referral and insurance reimbursement.  

Tuesday, Oct. 8:

Baby Care & Safety
6-8 p.m.
Hutcheson Medical Center (Women’s Center)
With times changing and discharge occurring earlier, “Baby Care” provides you with helpful items on caring for your baby at home.  This class will help you plan and prepare for a safe home environment.  Registration is free if mother is delivering at Hutcheson or $5 if delivering at another location.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at 788-LINK (5465) to register.  

Saturday, Oct. 12:

Dare to C.A.R.E

9 a.m.-noon
Erlanger East Campus (Gunbarrel Road)
Erlanger has teamed up with a national, non-profit group to provide free vascular and cardiac screenings and provide information from board-certified vascular surgeons, cardiologists, and other healthcare providers.  If you are age 50 or over; or 40 or over with risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and/or symptoms of peripheral vascular disease, you may qualify for this event.  The event is free and registration is required.  Call 778-LINK (5465) for more information and to register.

Ruling States That City Of Cleveland Is Entitled To Liquor By The Drink Funds

The city of Cleveland is entitled to keep all funds collected since city voters approved “liquor by the drink” in the Nov. 5, 2002 election. Bradley County Schools sued the city for taxes owed based on the school board’s interpretation of state law. Cleveland City Schools will be allowed to keep its money. Crash On Chattanooga Avenue Causes Power Outage

A single-car accident in Dalton damaged a power pole on Chattanooga Avenue in front of the Crown Mill Village apartments and has caused a power outage in the area.   Chattanooga Avenue was closed between Matilda Street and Judson Street while the Dalton Police Department investigated the crash and Dalton Utilities worked to replace the pole.
