The Friends of the Library annual business meeting will be held at the Downtown Branch of the Chattanooga Public Library on the fourth floor at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24.

Members will vote on the slate of new officers for 2014 and changes in the organization’s bylaws.

After the business meeting, the Friends of the Library are sponsoring a reception for author Megan Whalen Turner, whose book, The Thief, was a Newbery Honor Book Award for 1997. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served in a relaxed, reception-type atmosphere. The cost for the reception and annual meeting is $10 per person for the reception and annual meeting. Payment can be made in advance through the FOL office or at the door.

Following the reception, at 6:30pm the doors will be open to everyone free of charge to hear Ms. Turner’s keynote speech. The subject of her speech will be "The importance of teaching kids how to judge books so that we can trust them to choose their own reading material by the time they are teens."

Chattanooga Barnes & Noble will be on site with Ms. Turner's books for sale. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to The Friends of the Library.
