Lee Falls To Bethel, Defeats Indiana Tech

Lee's young volleyball team bounced back from an earlier 3-1 defeat to Bethel College (Ind.) to defeat Indiana Tech on Friday evening 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-15) in the opening day of play in the annual Lee Invitational.
Paula Martins paced a strong Lee hitting attack. The senior had 18 kills and a .567 hitting mark. She also collected a pair of aces. Latrice Johnson also hammered 14 kills and posted a .481 hitting percentage. She also came up with 13 digs. Camil Martinez joined Johnson with a double-double effort, 36 assists and 11 digs.
"We played a lot better against Indiana Tech and most of our players got to see a lot of action," said assistant coach Kevin Hudson. The Lady Flames will return to action on Saturday afternoon and will be pitted against a former Southern States Athletic Conference foe, College of Coastal Georgia at 2:30. They will turn right around and entertain Bryan College at 4:45.
Bethel rallied back from a first set 25-19 defeat to take three straight sets from the Lady Flames (23-25, 17-25, 21-25) in the opening round of the Lee Invitational.
The balanced Pilots attack saw Alica Carlton lead the way with 15 kills and 11 digs. Aubrey Husak totaled 13 kills and three blocks while Morgan Fox added 36 assists and 13 digs to the winning 3-1 final. Christina Welch followed with 11 digs and Mallory Gilkey came away with four blocks.
The Lady Flames got 16 kills, eight digs and three blocks from senior Paula Martins. Juniors Lauren Williams and Latrice Johnson joined freshman Erin Hill with nine kills. Johnson added nine digs and Williams three blocks. Patrica Orozco joined in with eight kills while Camil Martinez totaled 41 assists and picked up 19 digs to join Bethel's Carlton and Fox with the match's only double-doubles.
