Gentry, Carolyn Geneva (Little Sand Mountain)

Carolyn Geneva Gentry, 78, of the Little Sand Mountain Community, AL, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Gentry was born in Armuchee, GA on March 18, 1935, daughter of the late Huston Cargle and Mamie Grace Ward Cargle. She was a 1953 graduate of Summerville High School. Mrs. Gentry attended the Ebenezer Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was an office manager for Tri-Valley Growers in Los Banos, CA, and was a payroll administrator for the Northwest Regional Medical Center in Rome, GA. She was a member of the Dos Palos Order of the Eastern Star. 

Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by two brothers, Huston Cargle, Jr. and Billy Hugh Cargle; and two sisters, Dorothy Milam and Lola Mae Mathis.

Mrs. Gentry is survived by her husband, James A. "Sarge" Gentry of Armuchee; son and daughter-in-law, James Edward and Kathy Gentry of Armuchee; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Gary Kee of Merced, CA; brothers and sister-in-law, James Oliver Cargle and Hugh Carlton and Gumelda Cargle; sister, Thelma Ruth Rench; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Gentry will be held Wednesday, January 15, at 2 p.m. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be nephews and include: Tommy Cargle, Mike Rench, Tony Rench, Stanley Cargle, Billy Rench, Terry Cargle, Steve Morgan, Derick Milam, Rusty Gill, Thomas Gill, Jason Childers and Chris Cargle.

Mrs. Gentry will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Tuesday, January 14 from 6-8 p.m.

The family of Mrs. Gentry respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Little Sand Mountain Cemetery Fund c/o Mrs. Thelma Ruth Rench, 2730 S Little Sand Mountain Rd., Armuchee, GA 30105.

Coffman Funeral Home, Petitt Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
