Baylor Soccer Teams Earn Academic Award

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

The Baylor School girl's and boy's soccer teams won the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, "High School Team Academic Award".

Both teams were nominated individually but both received this great honor. The girl's overall team GPA was 3.5, the boy's overall team GPA was 3.45.

"This award really belongs to the faculty of Baylor,"  Baylor boys soccer coach Curtis Blair said.
"The faculty of Baylor go above and beyond to help all our students athletes. We hold our students to a high standard on the soccer field and in the classroom. We want our programs to reflect student-athletes and not just soccer players."

This annual award is based on a team's academic performance for the entire academic year.

For a team to be considered, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official eligibility roster for the season, and the coach must be a current NSCAA member.

This Day In Baseball History, May 25.

These actions will result in a one game suspension, a $200 fine, and will cost the 'Bambino' his Yankee captaincy, a position he has held ... (click for more)

A Memorial Day Reflection

I wish I could find that combination of words that would capture an inclusive meaning of Memorial Day.  I have attended many Memorial Day programs at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, so many that now they have merged into one memory.  But what stands out is that each year there are more friends and veterans to visit.  Some gave their all many years ago.  And ... Roy Exum: Two More Kick Out UAW

Woody Hayes, the great Ohio State football coach, used to teach his players to “paralyze resistance with persistence” but, my word, the likable theory has taken quite a beating in the past two years at the NTN-Bower ball-bearing plant in Hamilton, Ala. The workers there voted to decertify from the United Auto Workers union two years ago but getting the UAW out the door has turned ... (click for more)
