Going Out Of Town All The Way - And Response (2)

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Chattanooga and its mayor have praised former Chief Dodd for the job he has done. So what does Berke want to do? Spend $39,000 to look for a chief from out of town.

Where do we get these politicians? Which brings up my idea. What say we have an out of town search for a new mayor and council?

Michael Burns brings up a very valid point.

We require elected officials to live in specific districts, city or county boundaries.  Yet when we look for the leader of the men and women that we entrust our lives to, for every minute of every day, we are willing to bring this person here from anywhere.  What’s wrong with this picture people?

To go outside of the local law enforcement community for a department leader is a slap in the face to every man and woman that put their life in danger for us each day.

You cannot hire a more deserving, or better qualified leader than one who has worked their way up through the ranks of the department.  A leader that has personal knowledge, of the problems as well as the successes of the agency and the city.

Mayors and other elected officials come and go as they move their careers forward.  We have people right here at home who have dedicated decades and have earned this opportunity.

Mr. Mayor, promote from within the department; or at least appoint from our local community.

Michael..........that's a good question. Maybe Andy has to go outside the city of Chattanooga to get someone who matches up well with Chris Anderson and like minded members of the City Council.

Time will tell.
