Four McCallie School musicians earned recognition on the All-East Tennessee Band and Orchestra, while two were also selected for All-State accolades.
Sophomores Edward Ellis and Harrison Jennings performed well enough on Saturday at the All-State clinic to receive All-State status. Edward, who plays the trumpet, also has a unique opportunity to make the All-State Jazz Band. Harrison and his bassoon earned the highest score possible. Both students will participate in the All-State ensemble this spring.
Earning placement on the All-East Tennessee Band are freshman Miles Dexter, who plays the tuba, and sophomore Chris Zhu, who plays alto saxophone.
Junior Nathan Liu on viola is the first alternate for the All-East 11/12 Orchestra.
The auditions included more than 2,000 high school musicians. Only 122 students will comprise the All-State Band. The All-East Tennessee Band will consist of 488 musicians. The students were required to memorize scales, work on a prepared piece and sight-read music before a panel of judges.
