CCS Boys, Girls Survive Irish Invasion

The CCS basketball teams survived in two wins Friday night against Notre Dame before a spirited crowd from both teams.  The girls won the first game 52-50 and the CCS boys won the second game 35-33.

In the girls game, Notre Dame missed three shots in the final seconds which could have tied the game at 52.  Amanda Loyal hit the front end of a one and one that gave CCS the lead 52-50 with under 15 seconds left. 

Notre Dame got three good shots on the basket but none of them would fall.  Notre Dame had beaten CCS two weeks ago.

Hannah Henry and Joanna Smith led CCS with 17 and 16 points respectively. 

Notre Dame's Morgan Cantrell  led all scorers with 24 points.  Nine of those came in the third quarter. 

In a low scoring affair, the Charger boys basketball team overcame several turnovers in the final minute of the game to win 35-33. 

CCS struggled from the free throw line late in the fourth quarter.  Andrew Card hit one of two on their last attempt to give CCS a 35-33 lead.  Connor Aldridge drew a charge in the lane to give CCS the ball with about five seconds left.  Notre Dame's Kareem Orr intercepted a long CCS pass, dribbled into the lane but missed the final shot.  

Josh Fikkert led all scorers with 19 points.  Aaron Jones had 10.  Notre Dame was led by Kareem Orr with 11 points.

CCS led 25-13 at the half.  Both teams combined for just four points in the third quarter and Notre Dame outscored CCS 17-8 in the final period.
