Many Area Schools Closed Wednesday; Others On Delay Due To Record Cold

Bradley County, Polk County, Bledsoe, Grundy, McMinn, Meigs, Rhea County, Sequatchie, Van Buren and Marion County schools will be closed Wednesday due to freezing weather conditions.

On a two-hour delay will be Cleveland City, Dayton City, Dade County, Walker County, Chickamauga, Catoosa County and Chattooga County schools.

Bradley County School officials said, "Several schools have encountered heating problems due to the extremely low temperatures over the past several days." 

Whitfield County Schools and bus service will resume normal operating schedules on Wednesday morning.

With an official low temperature of five degrees on Tuesday morning, Chattanooga broke the record low for Jan. 17. The previous record low for Jan. 7 was set in 1970 when it reached nine degrees.
