Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County: 

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  The majority of work on this project has been completed.  The contractor is waiting to receive strain poles for the traffic signals.  Once these poles come in, they will be installed at the intersection.   Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is January.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday until 6 a.m. on Thursday, the contractor will have an inside lane closed on U.S. 27 in each direction from the Olgiati Bridge to Manning Street for delivery of bridge beams.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015.  

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be paving during this report period as weather and temperatures permit.  Drivers are urged to be alert and to obey all traffic signs.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is January.   

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September.  

I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May.

Federal Lawsuit Dismissed In Officer-Involved Shooting Of Javario Eagle

Federal Judge Sandy Mattice has dismissed the lawsuit filed in the officer-involved shooting death of Javario Eagle on Dec. 12, 2015. $10,000 Reward Offered For Unsolved Murder Of Janet Newman In 1984

An anonymous donor is contributing $10,000 to the reward fund in the unsolved case of Janet Newman.  Someone killed Ms. Newman 11 days before Christmas in 1984 as she worked alone inside Cannon Towel and Linen on Brainerd Road.
