Demetrice Terrell Carson
An alleged gang member has been charged with using Facebook to threaten the deaths of witnesses in a shooting case.
Demetrice Terrell Carson, 25, of 2109 Bennett Ave., is charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
The girlfriend of a man who was shot multiple times on Rogers Road said she and the victim have been getting the threats since the victim testified in General Sessions Court on Sept. 30.
Police said the victim was threatened because he testified against a known gang member, Jermichael Brooks.
Police said they checked Facebook last Friday and found a threat "clearly directed" at the shooting victim. The threat had been posted the previous day.
Police said it came from the Facebook profile of Carson, who is known by the street name of "Yung Meady."
The post included an article about the victim testifying at the Brooks hearing and said, "Knock his ass off if he talk to polices!!!!! Free blue light." Police said "blue light" refers to Brooks.
An officer said, "In my experience as a police officer I know that this statement means that for talking to police the victim should be killed."
Police said Carson is a convicted felon and a known associate of the Gangster Disciples.
Police said, "Due to his criminal history and close ties with gang members there is reason to believe Mr. Carson is fully capable with carrying out the threat made."
