The Lee volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-14) setback to No. 21 West Florida on Saturday afternoon to complete a rugged stretch of three matches in four days.
The Lady Flames began the week with a home match against Emory, ranked third in NCAA Division III, on Wednesday before embarking on a difficult conference road trip that began with a visit to Valdosta State(No. 3 in GSC) Friday night before today's matinee with the Argonauts.
The loss drops the Lady Flames to 6-11 overall and 4-7 in the GSC.
Lee is now 1-3 all-time against West Florida. The Argonauts improve to 16-2 on the year and 10-2 in conference play.
Latrice Johnson led the attack for Lee. The senior outside hitter registered nine kills and seven digs in the contest. Lauren Williams had four slams and notched four blocks to give her a 43 total on the season. Freshman setter Sadie Johnson tallied 10 assists.
West Florida was paced by Cora Bidlack's 14 kills. Corisha Smith followed with 11 while Monique St. Cyr set things in motion with 18 assists. Carol Siqueira and Colleen Stars led the defensive effort with 11 and 10 digs respectively.
The Argonauts were playing in front of a packed house as they hosted their annual "Pink Match" for breast cancer awareness.
The challenging schedule continues for Lee on Tuesday as they host rival and GSC front-runner Shorter University at 7 p.m. from the sport court at Walker Arena.
