William "David" Massingill, Jr. 67 of Harrison, died peacefully at his home on October 12, 2014, and is now with our heavenly father.

David was born in East Brainerd on July 31, 1947, the son of the late William David Sr. and Mary Massingill.  He graduated from Central High School in 1965, attended University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and served our country in the United States Army.

He was a sales rep for U.S. Pipe in his earlier years, and sales rep for Bobcat of Knoxville and Chattanooga and construction rep for Harmon and Paving.  David loved his family and was taken from us way too soon and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed the games of golf and tennis, was an avid reader and loved history.

In his young years, he was very active with his sons in all of their sports, coaching baseball, football and basketball. He was president of PTO at Brown Middle School, president of the Booster’s Club at Central High School in Harrison, and Sunday School teacher at Harrison United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Patti Jane, Mary Elizabeth (Susie) and Margaret Reed and survived by his sister, Barbara Jean.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years (soul mate and best friend), Linda Sexton Massingill; three loving sons, David (Gaye) Massingill of Antioch, Tn., Eric Massingill of Harrison and Travis (Andrea) Massingill of North Dallas, Tx.; grandsons, Austin Lan, Winston Sean and granddaughter, Ilah Elizabeth.  We will miss your strong character and beautiful blue eyes.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Chattanooga for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.

The family will receive friends from 8:30-10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Valley View Chapel Chattanooga Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend C.V. Duff officiating.

Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
