A veteran Red Bank detective has resigned after showing up at a firing range intoxicated.
Chief Tim Christol said, "On Tuesday, a supervisor reported to the training supervisor that he noticed a smell of alcohol emitting from Detective Doug Millsaps. The training supervisor retrieved a portable breath tester (PBT) and escorted Detective Millsaps away from other officers.
"Upon administering the test, the results indicated that he was indeed intoxicated.
He was immediately transported to the police department for a second test administered on a calibrated testing instrument. His breath alcohol again tested 0.114 and 0.124. He was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the disposition of the investigation.
"On Thursday, Detective Millsaps notified me that he was submitting his resignation from the department and on Friday, delivered a written copy of his resignation effective immediately.
"Detective Millsaps was removed from the training class during “dry-fire” skills reinforcement training and prior to shooting any ammunition."
