The first year Dalton State women’s golf team is half way through the fall season and has impressed a lot of golf enthusiasts.
Golfstat reported Wednesday that, based on performance, the Lady Roadrunners are now 13th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). That is actually down four spots from a Monday posting.
Dalton State is one of two women’s teams from the SSAC in the top 15. College of Coastal Georgia is 15th. William Carey and the University of Mobile at 17th and 18th.
SCAD-Savannah, from the Appalachian Athletic Conference, is fourth.
“We are excited to be in the top ten,” said Coach Jim McGrew. “It shows that the work that we have done so far is pointing us in the right direction as a program. We do understand that it is just a start and we have plenty of work to do before conference and national in the spring.”
The Lady Roadrunners opened up at the College of Coastal Georgia Invitational at Jekyll Island by finishing second to Northwood University of Florida. Norwood is ranked second in the Golfstat rankings.
Dalton State finished tied for fourth in this week’s rain shortened Lady Flames Shootout at Cleveland Golf and Country Club. They were the only NAIA team in the top five.
The Lady Roadrunners will play this coming Monday and Tuesday in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate at Stonebridge Golf Course in Rome. They finish up the fall season on October 27th and 28th in the NAIA National Championship Fall Preview at Savannah Quarters in Pooler, Ga.
“Hopefully we can build on the start and finish the fall with good showings in our next two tournaments,” McGrew added.
