The Chattanooga Mocs posted a pair of first round wins at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Nashville, Tenn., this afternoon. Juniors Nick Wingord and Luke Saunders both won their first matches before being knocked out of the main draw.
Wingord defeated host-Vanderbilt’s Pen Binet (7-5, 6-1). He dropped a tough second round match to the No. 3 seed Connor Glennon of Memphis (6-4, 6-3).
Saunders opened the tournament with a (6-1, 6-2) win against Murray State’s Max McLean, but fell in the second round to Vandy’s No.
6 seed Rhys Johnson (6-4, 6-2).
Both Mocs doubles teams lost in the first round. Saunders and Wingord fell to Tennessee Tech’s Eduardo Mena and Alvaro Cintas 8-3. Peacey and Wilson also lost to a Golden Eagle pair. They were ousted by Oleksiy Arovin and Alberto Esteban (8-7 (1)) in a tiebreaker.
Despite being out of the main draw, Chattanooga still has some work left to do. Sophomore Nic Wilson, who lost yesterday in the qualifying round, and Peacey will take part in the consolation brackets on Friday.
