Lady Mocs Soccer Falls 10-0 At Wofford

  • Friday, October 17, 2014

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team fell 10-0 to Wofford Friday night at Snyder field in Southern Conference action.

The Mocs fall to 1-13-1 on the year and 0-6 in league play while the Terriers move to 5-8 overall and 2-4 against the SoCon.

Wofford got the scoring started early with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes. It would be nearly 18 minutes before they would score again with Mary Kathryn Macklen connecting on the first of her two goals for the night at the 24:48 mark of the game to make it 3-0.

Wofford added four more goals in the half to go into the lockerroom 7-0 at the break.

“Obviously we didn’t come ready to play in the first half at all,” UTC head coach J.D. Kyzer said. “We played a lot better soccer in the second half, but it’s hard to come back when you’re down by that much.”

Eight different Wofford players scored with Macklen and Hannah Washko each snaring two apiece. Annika Jannson had a game-high six shots with two on goal but didn’t make contact with the net. Both of Washko’s shots, however, crossed the goal and Macklen made two of her four shots on the night.

Seven different Chattanooga players got off shots in the match with senior Melanie Arredondo (Tampico, Mexico), freshman Emily Moseley (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Ashley Simmons (Hixson, Tenn.) each putting their shots on goal.

Freshman keeper Hannah Dunn recorded seven saves with three in the first half and four in the second. She has 94 saves on the year through 11 games and is nine shy of entering the Mocs’ single season top 10.

Wofford outshot Chattanooga 35-7 with a 17-3 shots on goal advantage. The Mocs had two corner kicks on the night while the Terriers managed eight.

“It was not our night,” Kyzer said. “We are not strong enough as a team to not come out to play.”

Chattanooga will close out the regular season road slate Sunday afternoon at Furman. The game will be aired on the SoCon Digital Network and live stats will be available at GoMocs.com.
