Miss Chattanooga Jennifer Shaughnessy
Community participants, including Miss Chattanooga, took the extreme challenge to rappel 20 stories from one of downtown Chattanooga’s tallest rooftops during the third annual Over the Edge, a fundraising event benefiting the Boy Scouts of America Cherokee Area Council. This event included a First Rappeller Day and Drop Party with local celebrities on Wednesday evening, with the main event taking place on Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
"What is the scariest thing about doing a pageant?" asked Miss Chattanooga Jennifer Shaughnessy. "The swim suit competition, but I think I am ready for it after going Over the Edge. That was a great ab workout.”
Rappellers wishing to go Over the Edge (called “Edgers”) committed to raising a minimum of $1,000 to take the plunge, with the professional assistance of Over the Edge personnel. The “Toss Your Boss” campaign was another way for work associates to get together and collectively raise $2,500 to send their boss Over the Edge.
Over the Edge is a unique fundraising event that has helped non-profits across North America for
10 years with a spotless safety record. Participants from age 16 to 86 have rappelled skyscrapers as part of the Over the Edge program, everyone from team mascots to CEOs. No experience is required, just enough courage to step Over the Edge.
Styckman, Gator, Cindy Sexton and Miss Chattanooga USA were some of the Over the Edge participants.
