Northside Neighborhood House’s Christmas Program Provides Toys And Food To Neighbors In Need

  • Monday, October 20, 2014

The Northside Neighborhood House is busy gearing up for its Christmas Program. An extension of the Direct Assistance Program, the Christmas Program provides food boxes with a week’s supply of food to families living north of the river. The NNH also hosts a "Santa's Workshop", where parents can "shop" for their children, ages birth-15.

Last year, 434 children received toys from Santa's Workshop and 200 families received Christmas food boxes. The NNH expects to serve even more families this year.

“The NNH extends help beyond food and toys by offering supportive classes to Christmas Program participants,” says Brianne Carswell, development director of the NNH. “These educational sessions empower parents and connect them to community resources to help them support their families.”

Christmas food boxes and the Santa's Workshop are stocked entirely with donations, primarily from local schools, churches, and businesses. There are several ways you can help support the NNH and Santa's Workshop this holiday season:

-Bring unwrapped toys to the NNH, which will be given to one of over 400 children who will receive toys from the NNH.

-Host a toy drive at your office.

-Make a monetary gift to the NNH for Santa's Workshop or Christmas food boxes.

-Adopt a family and provide their food and/or toys.

“We are already accepting donations and welcome the support of civic groups, social groups, church groups, businesses, families or any individuals who want to give back this holiday season,” says Ms. Carswell. “Our Christmas Program wouldn’t be a success without the generosity of community members.”
