Voting For Gee, Howley And Spalding

  • Monday, October 20, 2014

Election time is rapidly approaching.  We all want to vote for the best candidates.

I have been a resident of Signal Mountain and a resident of Alexian Village for nearly 14 years.  I would like to recommend three of the five candidates that are currently running for the Signal Mountain Town Council. I firmly believe that the majority of candidates for various positions should not hold office for more than two consecutive terms.  If a candidate has not accomplished what they have set out to do in two terms, then they should step down and let someone else step up to the plate.

All five candidates recently came to Alexian Village to conduct a forum.  I was especially impressed with three of the candidates and what their aspirations are in an attempt to improve all of our lives here on Signal Mountain.

Dick Gee has had extensive experience with Signal Mountain and how the Town Council operates.  He has had much experience in local activities, both in his local Signal Mountain church and with the Signal Mountain Playhouse.  Dick has also served as both an observer and adviser to the Signal Mountain Arts Community Center.  Dick is well known and respected by many of our Signal Mountain residents.

Chris Howley is the father of four children and is very active in assisting in youth sports, High School Theater, and the Recreation Board.  Chris is a successful businessman and is skilled in budgets and finance and would be an excellent addition to the Signal Mountain Town Council.

Dr. Bob Spalding owns his own local business and is keenly aware of the excessive bureaucracy that has, and is currently affecting local businesses . Dr. Spalding has been very active as a lifelong resident of Signal Mountain.  He founded the reserve office of the sherriff department and has volunteered his property for the annual Monster Barn to raise funds for charity.  Bob is an ideal candidate for our town, as well as for prospective businesses.

If we want to improve the lives of our citizens and our town businesses, then I strongly suggest that everyone vote for Gee, Howley, and Spalding this Nov. 4.

Clint Blumer

* * *

I just wanted to thank Clint Blumer for his kind article supporting Chris Howley, Dick Gee and myself as candidates for the Signal Mountain town council. I did however want to correct one statement.

Even though I am extremely blessed to have worked as a previous full time deputy for the HCSD and I serve as a current a reserve deputy working 20 hours a month since 1999, I did not set up the reserve program. Sheriff Hammond is responsible for all aspects of that excellent program that augments full time deputies on a regular basis.

What Mr. Blumer is probably referring to is my proud involvement of being one of the few remaining individuals who made up the 11 original incorporators that helped form the Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service in 1976. I still volunteer as a member of the WRES board and I encourage all mountain top residents in Signal Mountain, Walden or the unincorporated areas of the county to support the new WRES equipment fund drive.
