Erlanger Upgrading Robotics Program, Adding Cath Lab, Upgrading Voice And Data Network

  • Monday, October 20, 2014

Erlanger Health System officials said Monday they are planning an upgrade and expansion of the robotics program.

The hospital is also upgrading Cardiac Cath Lab #3, which has been idle for four years.

Erlanger is also leasing new voice and data network equipment.

The items were all approved by the Hospital Authority finance committee.

Officials said an increasing number of physicians are waiting to use existing surgical robotics.

Currently, the main Erlanger campus has one robotic system which is at capacity, and the Erlanger East operating room has one robotic system in need of upgrading.

There will be newer robotic technology at both locations.

Erlanger will spend $295,305 from current capital and $3,603,264 under a four-year lease. Officials said leasing is preferable to avoid capital costs and to be able to keep up with the latest technology.

Officials said Cath Lab #3 needs to be upgraded to perform both cardiac and vascular procedures.

The cost from Siemens is $1.4 million.

The current wired network infrastructure was installed over a period of eight years beginning in 2002.

Cost of the new leased equipment is $3,061,900.
