Brenau Downs Dalton State Volleyball, 3-1

The Dalton State volleyball Roadrunners played hard to the end, but fell in four sets, 3-1, to the visiting Golden Tigers from Brenau University.

Brenau (13-9 overall, 7-5 SSAC) gained a 21-15 lead in the first set, but DS would not give up.

The Golden Tigers went on to win by four, 25-21.

Dalton State trailed only once in the second set (3-2). The Lady Roadrunners regained the lead and gradually pulling away. The largest lead of the game was at the end, 25-15.

The hosts had an early 6-4 lead in the third set, but Brenau scored the next five points. Dalton State came back to tie the game six times, but could never regain the lead. The final tie of the set was at 18. BU scored the final seven points for the 25-18 victory.

The Lady Roadrunners never had the lead in the final set, but never gave up. They pulled to within two at 22-20. Brenau scored the final five points to win, 25-20.

Dalton State setter Michala Askew had 39 assists and 11 digs. Alyne Bianchi had 12 DS kills and 11 digs. Anna Metzler had 11 kills, 12 digs and four serving aces. Karly Newman added 21 digs and Tori Pierce had 13.

Dalton State volleyball (10-9 overall, 6-6 SSAC) will make a swing to Mississippi and Alabama this weekend. The Lady Roadrunners will visit Belhaven University in Jackson, MS Friday night at 8:00 EDT, 7:00 p.m. Central, then come back as far as Faulkner University in Montgomery Saturday afternoon for 3:00 p.m. EDT match.
