Why Red Bank District 3 Is Without A Commissioner Almost A Year - And Response

  • Wednesday, October 22, 2014

As 50-year residents of Red Bank (District 3), we are concerned about the upcoming election.  Two incumbents running for commissioner are the same two who refused to appoint a commissioner for District 3 when a vacancy occurred.  District 3 has been without representation since February.  Rick Causer and Floy Pierce refused to vote to appoint three different citizens who were nominated repeatedly by Mayor John Roberts and Commissioner Eddie Pierce.  After several commission meetings which we attended, it was clear that Causer and Floy Pierce were unwilling to cast their vote for any person nominated by the other two commissioners resulting in a 2-2 deadlock.  This deadlock has caused a division among the commissioners.

We are asking residents of District 3 (from the tunnel to E. Newberry) to remember on Nov. 4 which commissioners refused to allow our district to be represented.  We know the three citizens who were nominated to fill the seat and each are well qualified.  One nominee stated publicly that she would serve as a caretaker for the seat until the election, but Causer and F. Pierce refused to appoint

Our votes will go for John Roberts, Terry Pope, and Ed LeCompte to represent all citizens of Red Bank.

I hope that the citizens of Red Bank remember that at one time we thought that a special election would have to be held to fill the vacant District 3 seat to the cost of $10,000.  Commissioners Causer and F. Pierce would rather waste the Red Bank citizens' money than to work with the other commissioners.

Why is Commissioner Causer running for a commission seat when he already has a seat on the commission?   If he wins, which I really hope does not happen, we will have another vacancy so will we have to have another election and waste $10,000 of the taxpayers' money?

Since all Red Bank residents vote for all the commissioners that are running, I hope that the citizens will vote for John Roberts, Terry Pope and Ed LeCompte so that our city can move forward.
