Southeast K9 Search And Rescue To Host Working Dog Seminar

  • Thursday, October 23, 2014

"That’s for the Dogs” might be an insult to some, but for others, it is a phrase that saves lives. Search and Rescue K9s play an important role in finding missing people, both in wilderness and in disaster scenarios. Southeast K9 Search and Rescue is hosting a seminar to further the training of working dogs and their handlers at the Chattanooga Fire Training Center on this weekend. 10 to 20 handler and K9 teams, many from the East Tennessee region, are expected to attend.

This informative seminar will teach matching K9s with the appropriate task as well as conducting proper decoy work and reward systems best suited to individual dogs. It will focus on search dogs for the disaster and urban search and rescue environments, but the information presented will also be applicable to search, scenting, apprehension, trailing and service dogs. The lead instructor will be David Lynders, owner of Lynders K-9 Training Academy in Ruckersville, Va. Mr. Lynders has an extensive background in sport, police, and search and rescue K-9s and is a national-renowned dog trainer and handler.

The seminar will run from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m.-noon on Sunday, and is being presented free of cost to participants. Individuals who do not yet have a search dog but are interested in learning how to select the proper dog for search work, are encouraged to attend. A special thanks to the Chattanooga Fire Department for their support of disaster preparedness and their commitment to public safety.
