Cooper Hodge, E.J.Matthews and Austin Jackson each scored a touchdown and combined for 259 rushing yards as host Boyd Buchanan defeated Sequatchie County, 24-14, Friday night in a non-district high school football game.

The Bucs (4-5) have won four straight after starting the season 0-5 and travel to Silverdale for the district title next Friday night. Sequatchie Co. is 3-6.

The visiting Indians were led by quarterback Colby Reed who rushed for 151 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown.

Fast Start: Adam Pickett had the Sequatchie County on their feet cheering as he returned the opening kickoff 95 yards as the Indians took a 7-0 lead after Alex Romero made good the first of two extra points.

The Indians recovered the ensuing kickoff, but a penalty negated the play and the Bucs recovered the second onsides kick attempt.

The Blue and White answered the Indians opening score with a 9-play, 48 yard scoring drive capped by a 2-yard run by E.J. Matthews as Will Greer made good on the first of three extra points.

The two teams also traded touchdowns in the second quarter and the Bucs' Greer added a field goal late after Kohl Henke blocked a Sequatchie County punt with less than a minute before half.

"We played well in all phases - offense, defense and special teams," said Boyd Buchanan coach Grant Reynolds.

"This was a real gutsy win as you hit 'em in the chin. You are growing up as a team and this is the right time of the season to be a good football team."

O-Line Praised: "You answered the bell tonight," said Boyd Buc O-line coach Caleb Collier. "You were awesome."

Kohl Henke Shines for Bucs: The freshman defensive back had a stellar night as he gained a quarterback sack, blocked a punt and intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter.

"Boyd blocked our defensive line well, we tackled poorly and we made too many mistakes," said Sequatchie County coach Ken Colquette.

"We had our chances to score, but they deserved to win."
