Lee University men’s soccer dropped its third straight match with a 1-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) loss at Union University. The Bulldogs (3-10, 2-6 GSC) avenged a 2-1 loss to the Flames (7-7-2, 2-5-1 GSC) on Sept. 6 in Cleveland.
Alex Pratt scored the eventual game-winner in the eighth minute. He picked up the rebound of his own missed shot that hit off the post and tucked the ball into the lower right side of the net.
“We’re doing a lot of things right except the most important thing and that is scoring,” said Lee head coach Paul Furey. “Effort is there, chances are there, but the goals just haven’t come like they have previously.”
Lee outshot their hosts by a 27-13 margin. The Flames put 10 shots on goal, while the Bulldogs were on frame four times. Lee was awarded eight corner kicks to Union’s one.
“Look at the shots, shots on goal and corner kicks. It tells you how we are playing and where the ball is, but the score line tells you where the ball has not been and that’s what counts,” added Furey.
David Perez led the Lee offensive attack with three shots on goal. Myles Scott and Quade Marinell each put two shots on target.
Joey Hinshaw recorded three saves in the loss. Taylor Smith tallied eight saves and Union’s defense contributed two team saves to secure the clean sheet.
“Guarantee we’ll keep working hard and hopefully catch a break soon,” Furey added.
Lee will close out its GSC schedule on Oct. 31 with a trip to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
