Walker County Sheriff's Office Receives Grant From Governor's Office

  • Monday, October 27, 2014

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office has received a $45,700 grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The grant, which will run Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2015, will help finance the purchase of radar and lidar units, speed monitoring trailers, alco sensors, training and field sobriety equipment.

“The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is committed to keeping everyone safe on our roads and highways, from the smallest precious cargo to the most seasoned drivers,” said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood.  “This grant will help Walker County Sheriff’s Office reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Georgia roadways.

Sheriff Steve Wilson stated that, “through aggressive enforcement and education efforts, we hope to increase overall safety belt usage and enhance police traffic services.  Funds from the grant will enable Walker County deputies to reduce speed/alcohol related crashes, injuries and fatalities on rural roads.”

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office has been the recipient of grant awards from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety many times since the first award in 1994 and have participated in GOHS Safety Enforcement Campaigns such as Click It or Ticket, Operation Zero Tolerance and 100 Days of Summer Heat.
