The Fine Arts Department will offer a variety of musical and theatrical events throughout the month of November in the C.C. Bond Humanities Theatre on the main campus of Chattanooga State Community College. All events are free to the public, unless otherwise noted.
The Brock McGuire Band, a traditional Irish band of musicians, will present an afternoon of music on Sunday beginning at 2:30 p.m. The concert features a blend of instruments emphasizing mostly Irish music, but also sprinkling in arrangements of American Old Timey, Bluegrass, French-Canadian and other Celtic traditions.
Music and theatre fans will enjoy the Broadway allegorical musical, The Roar of the Greasepaint – the Smell of the Crowd beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov, 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15, and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16. Written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, the production includes Broadway standards Feeling Good, The Joker and Who Can I Turn to? The event is free to students, faculty and staff, $15 for other guests.
For those who love opera, the Opera Theatre students will present an evening of opera scenes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22.
A jazz concert featuring the ChattState Jazz Band members will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24. The concert will feature an evening of jazz standards under the direction of musical director Jay Stanfill.
A Student Applied Recital highlighting students of applied voice and instrumental study will be offered on Tuesday, Nov. 25, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
