Walmart Neighborhood Markets Set For Chattanooga Launch

  • Tuesday, October 28, 2014

A host of Walmart Neighborhood Markets are expected to sprout up in the Chattanooga area in coming months.

Two zoning changes for groceries from the same applicant are on the November agenda for the Planning Commission.

One is near the corner of Moore Road and Shallowford Road.

Another is on East Brainerd Road near Graysville Road.

A local food distributor said Walmart is planning eight of the downsized Walmarts in and around Chattanooga.

It was announced earlier this year that Fort Oglethorpe would get the first Chattanooga area Walmart Neighborhood Market at a site on Fant Drive off Battlefield Parkway.

The Walmart Neighborhood Markets are about a quarter of the size of a regular Walmart and focus on groceries.
