Chattanooga Christian School and Grundy County would see eight lead changes in their region match up Friday night. The teams combined for three touchdowns in the first half and four in the fourth quarter. Grundy County would score in the final minutes of the game to earn the 30-24 win.
CCS led 7-0 in the first quarter and 7-6 in the second. Grundy County would take the lead on a three yard run by lineman Terrince Bramhall in the second quarter. Bramhall also converted on a
two point converstion pass to take the 14-7 lead.
CCS tied the game on one of Zach Mercer's two touchdown passes to Nick Fulmer.
Mercer's second touchdown pass to Fulmer came early in the fourth and gave CCS a 21-14 lead.
Grundy's Houston Mainord scored on a three yard pass to Logan Meeks. Mainord and Meeks also connected on the two point conversion to give Grundy County a 22-21 lead.
CCS's next scored came at the 4:36 mark of the fourth quarter when Will Patton hit a 24 yard field goal.
Grundy County scored their final touchdown with 1:18 left when Mainord found Meeks from 13
yards out. Meeks and Mainord also combined again for the two point conversion to give them
a 30-24 lead.
CCS would turn it over on downs and Grundy was able to run out the clock.
CCS had 423 total yards on offense. CCS quarterback Zach Mercer threw for 206 yards. Young brother Matthew threw for 81 yards.
Brandon Mason had 128 yards receiving on just four catches. Barrott Bickley had 82 on 3 catches.
Mason also rushed for 106 yards on 12 carries.
Grundy County quarterback Houston Mainord had 235 yards on 17 of 27 passes.
Logan Meeks had 88 yards receiving on eight catches. Trent Hampton had 69 yards and Christian Brown had 66.
Alex Nunly rushed three times for 63 yards.
