When the first College Football Playoff rankings were released earlier this week, Alabama football coach Nick Saban got it right on the button when he shrugged, “I don't even care, to be honest with you."
"To me, none of it matters, What does it matter?” he laughed at the Tide’s No. 6 ranking. “I mean, it only matters where you end up at the end. So what matters to us is how we do in each and every game that we have to play. We have four games left to play, and if we can be successful in those games, maybe there's a chance we will play in the SEC Championship Game as well.
"None of it matters if we're not successful in our games. So I don't even care, to be honest with you,” Saban said frankly. “Don't know and don't care.”

Steve Spurrier isn’t so naïve he doesn’t know other college players sign autographs for money and explained Georgia’s Todd Gurley got caught when he got paid too early. This week Spurrier told reporters, “It appears some guys sign autographs and say, 'Hey, give me the money when my (playing) days are over because, obviously, they're not signing them for free,” the South Carolina coach said.
“I guess Todd Gurley took some money now when he should have waited until his eligibility was over. He would have been fine, I guess. I think most of the guys who are in position to sign autographs are smart enough to say, 'Catch me after the bowl game, and we can do some business then.’”

If Alabama state senator Rusty Glover has his way he’ll ask his fellow lawmakers to do away with Daylight Savings Time. This Saturday night we will “fall back,” moving our clocks back into Eastern Standard Time and Glover says it is stupid.
"I have heard from constituents and businesses from around the state for years about this issue," Glover said in a release. "Our legislation will make sure that children riding the late afternoon school bus, or working people who get off at 5 o'clock, won't have to come home in the dark."
He said it is “a constant source of disruption” and that “it’s time to move on." He hopes the legislation will pass and “end the arcane, imposed, and artificial time adjustments that simply make no sense."
If the proposed legislation falls, Alabama will “spring forward” on Sunday, March 8, 2015.

This Saturday’s Georgia-Florida game will be fun to watch because the two teams will dress in their home colors in Jacksonville. Usually the visiting team wears white jerseys but tomorrow Georgia will wear red and Florida will dress in blue … just like they did years ago. The Bulldogs are a heavy favorite, picked to win by 13.

Alabama quarterback Blake Sims spoke to the kids at Tuscaloosa’s Eastwood Middle School on Wednesday and told his adoring audience, "The best thing you have, the best gift that God gave you was your ears," said Sims. “Please use them. You will learn so much. If you don't listen, you can't be smart or grow stronger. Listen to your teachers. They want nothing but the best for you."
Discussing teachers, he added, “Sometimes they tell you to be quiet in class and send you to the principal, but you can't be mad at them for good. When you get in trouble, it's your fault. They don't want to fail you. Trust me, they don't. They want to pass you and see you go on and be successful in life."
Sims used his life to illustrate “Hard work always pays off," and minced no words telling the children he has a 5-year-old daughter. "I was crying. I was mad," Sims said but explained working through it made him a better person. "I'd look on Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and all that at my friends out having fun, partying, having a good time. And now I'm here, and I'm successful. And it's not cocky. I can say it because I did it. All that hard work I did is paying off."
One more tidbit from Sims. “There's never a dumb question. If I had asked more questions, I promise I'd be smarter than I am now.”
If you ask me, Blake Sims sounds pretty smart.
