With temperatures dipping below freezing, the Salvation Army will be opening its doors for overnight emergency shelter for the homeless on Saturday at 6 p.m. The ReCreate Café, the Salvation Army's Day Center at 800 McCallie Ave., is preparing to serve throughout the night this weekend. The Salvation Army is placing a call to the community to donate blankets, travel-size toiletry items, and coats.
"Our goal is to keep people safe and protected from below freezing temperatures," said Captian Aaron Goldfarb, 614 Corps Officer. "We are down to our last few blankets and need assistance from our neighbors."
Monetary donations are also welcomed for those experiencing high utility bills from having to keep temperatures warmer in their homes. Donations of coats, blankets, or money are being accepted at the Salvation Army, 822 McCallie Ave. Monetary donations can also be made on line by visiting csarmy.org or by calling 1-800-Sal-Army.
