Lee Students Prepare To Compete In Dorm Wars 2014

  • Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Once again, students across Lee University’s campus are gearing up for a battle of the dorms in the name of charity. The competition will be held on Monday at 8 p.m. in the Paul Dana Walker Arena on Lee’s campus.

This annual competition has been a tradition at Lee for 22 years. The event, organized by Lee’s Department of Residential Life and Housing, brings energy and excitement into dorm life, while raising money for various service organizations, said officials.

The first, second, and third place winners will receive a cash prize to be donated to an organization of their choosing.

This year, students will serve with the following service organizations: Boys and Girls Club, Cleveland Emergency Center, H.O.P.E. Children’s Advocacy Center, Haven Place, Impact Cleveland, New Hope Pregnancy Center, Project Free2fly, Second Life, Signal Centers and Wellington Place.

Every residence hall on campus will participate in this event, along with a designated faculty sponsor. Other Lee staff members will be involved in the competition as officials and scorekeepers.

With over 1,500 students in attendance, Dorm Wars has become one of the most anticipated events on campus, said officials. At the end of the night, the coveted title of “Dorm Wars Champion” will be given to one male hall and one female hall.

“Dorm Wars is one of the biggest on-campus events of the year,” said Ben Jones, area coordinator for residential life and housing. “Students practice, train, rehearse, and pour themselves into this event, and the results are incredible. Beyond the community and excitement that is generated the night of the event, Dorm Wars impacts the local community in a meaningful way through partnerships with local service organizations.”

The events featured this year will include the classic relay race, the shopping cart race, and the obstacle course, among others.

Admission is free and open to the public.
