GNTC Foundation Holds 16th Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament

Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Foundation held the 16th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome on Thursday. James Derward Powell served as the president of GNTC from 1987-1994.

There were 39 hole sponsors that donated a minimum of $100 each. Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family: Jim Powell, Tripp Powell, Clayborn Bradfield, and Blake Cescutti.

Teams that participated in the tournament included: Bojo Team; Citizen’s First Bank; Coca-Cola; Fox Systems, Inc.; Gordon Hospital; The HON Company; King Team; LeGrande Team; Lowe’s RDC; Mount Vernon Mills; Powell Family Team; United Community Bank; and GTNC team. The GNTC Golf Team was sponsored by Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects of Alpharetta.

The J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into two flights and prizes were awarded to the first place teams in each flight.   

1st Flight - 1st Place 

Mount Vernon Mills Team, consisting of: Gary Branton, Randy Henderson, Hollis Siffles, and Gary Bullard.

2nd Flight - 1st Place   

Coca-Cola Team, consisting of: Bill Kinsey, Jay Donnell, Steve Patterson, and Robin Wood.


Clayborn Bradfield won ‘Closest to the Pin’ and Tripp Powell won ‘Longest Drive.’

Door prizes provided by: City Club Marietta; Stonebridge Golf Club of Rome; Meadow Lakes Golf Club of Cedartown; LaFayette Golf Course; Service Master of Rome; Rome Cleaners; RICOH USA; SEIDA; W. W. Proceeds raised from the tournament will be used to provide scholarships and financial assistance to GNTC students, purchase equipment for programs, provide training for faculty and staff, and further marketing and public relations efforts.
