In a joint investigation, agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office have obtained an indictment for a jail employee accused of misconduct.

At the request of 11th District Attorney General Neil Pinkston, TBI special agents joined the case into Steven Ward on Oct. 2. During the course of the investigation, authorities developed information that Ward, a corrections corporal for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, exceeded his authority by telling an inmate he would interfere with the judicial process related to the inmate’s jail records.

On Wednesday, the Hamilton County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Ward, charging the 45-year-old Hixson man with one count of official misconduct. On Thursday, he was booked into the Hamilton County Jail, where he was being given a $3,000 bond.

Ward was subsequently suspended without pay from his position with the department.
