Stanley R. “Randy” Tucker, Jr., former GPS headmaster
At their annual conference, the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools honored the late Stanley R. “Randy” Tucker, Jr., former GPS headmaster, with its most prestigious award. The Sawney Webb Award, named for the founder of Webb School in Culleoka, Tenn., honors administrators “who have made outstanding contributions to the field of independent school education.”
Mr. Tucker, who died in a tragic accident in April, had a 45-year career in independent schools, including teaching and administrative leadership at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla.; a 26-year span at GPS, and a one-year interim headship of Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tenn.
In presenting the award, which was accepted by GPS Athletic Director Stacey Hill, TAIS described Mr. Tucker as “an inspirational, transformational, and beloved leader who had a lasting impact on three generations of students.” He was noted for his visionary efforts to integrate technology into the classroom in pursuit of educational excellence, “placing GPS squarely in the forefront of the revolution in classroom teaching.”
