City Council Puts New Animal Ordinance Into Effect

  • Tuesday, November 18, 2014

By a narrow margin, the City Council on Tuesday night put into effect the long-delayed update to the Animal Control Ordinance.

Voting in favor were Moses Freeman, Jerry Mitchell, Carol Berz, Ken Smith and Yusuf Hakeem.

Chairman Chip Henderson and Russell Gilbert were opposed.

Chris Anderson and Larry Grohn were absent.

Five votes were needed to pass.

The measure was introduced last year, but got sidetracked by a hubbub over backyard chickens. That section is no longer in the ordinance.
