The nonprofit Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence has named 32 organizations 2014 Award winners, including Business Engineering of Chattanooga. Maury Regional Medical Center was selected as an Excellence Award recipient by the TNCPE panel of judges. TNCPE is Tennessee’s only statewide quality program patterned on the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, which was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1987.
“Maury Regional Medical Center remains dedicated to sustaining a culture of excellence and empowering employees at all levels to provide world-class care to every patient, every day,” Governor Bill Haslam said. “Maury Regional Medical Center is a model of success in this area, and I congratulate their employees on this achievement.”
Excellence Award recipients are examples of high-performance organizations, exhibiting continuous improvement and best practice processes that serve as role models for other organizations, said officials. Fourteen organizations will be honored with the Achievement Award (Level 3), 16 will accept a Commitment Award (Level 2) and one organization will receive an Interest Award (Level 1). A full list of 2014 Award recipients follows.
The awards will be presented at the 22nd Annual Excellence in Tennessee Awards Banquet on Feb. 18 at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs in Franklin.
There is no limit to the number of awards presented annually. Since the program was founded in 1993, only 22 organizations have attained the Excellence designation. Maury Regional Medical Center is a previous Excellence Award recipient, earning the honor for the first time in 2009.
“This program takes a true commitment from leadership and dedication by the entire organization to refine their processes, delight the customers, engage their workforce, and achieve best-in-class results,” said TNCPE President Katie Rawls. “TNCPE is honored to be Maury Regional Medical Center’s partner of choice in leading the organization to world-class performance excellence and making Tennessee a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The 2014 Board of Examiners, made up of more than 175 experts in business, education, health care and government, spent more than 15,000 hours assessing this year’s applicants in seven areas: leadership; strategic planning; customer focus; measurement, analysis, and knowledge management; workforce focus; operations focus; and results. The TNCPE panel of judges is responsible for validating the integrity of the TNCPE award process and determining recognition levels for each applicant. The panel comprises experts selected from all industry sectors and represents each grand division of the state, said officials.
Established in 1993 as a public-private partnership, the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence strives to promote economic development and drive organizational excellence by helping companies and organizations grow more competitive in today’s global marketplace through affordable, in-depth assessments. A statewide nonprofit, TNCPE is grounded in the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence—a holistic framework used by organizations across multiple industries to improve their performance and achieve sustainable results. More than 1,300 organizations have participated in and benefited from the TNCPE program. Four Tennessee businesses—Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation, Pal’s Sudden Service, Eastman Chemical Company, and Federal Express—have been honored with both the prestigious Baldrige National Quality Award and the TNCPE Excellence Award, said officials.
