Foes Of Signal Mountain Land Conservation Easement Get Top Council Posts

  • Wednesday, November 19, 2014
Foes of a highly controversial Signal Mountain conservation easement have been given top posts in the town's government.

Former Mayor Bill Lusk made a motion that the council elect Dick Gee as mayor by acclamation, and the vote was unanimous in favor.

A similar motion was made by new Councilman Chris Howley to elect Bill Wallace vice mayor by acclamation. That vote was also unanimous in favor.

Mayor Lusk joined with council members Annette Allen and Susan Robertson in October in a 3-2 vote to put 12 parcels of undeveloped land under perpetual protection.

Opposed were council members Gee and Wallace.

Council members Allen and Robertson lost in the Nov. 4 election.

Winners were Mr. Howley, Mr. Gee and Richard Spalding.
