In celebration of their 10th Anniversary, the North River Civic Center presents two simultaneous art exhibits, the NRCC ‘Wildlife Fine Art Exhibit: CAMOUFLAGE’ and the ‘Introduction to Oil Painting Program’ exhibit. An opening reception for both exhibits will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 2-4 p.m. The show will continue through Feb. 28.
The subject of the CAMOUFLAGED exhibit focuses on camouflaged animals, bugs, birds, nature, etc. in their natural habitat. “Camouflage is the use of any combination of materials, coloration or illumination for concealment either by making animals or objects hard to see or by disguising them as something else.
You will see paintings from the leopard spotted coat to the dazzling motion of the hummingbird,” says Linda Rugina, manager and art coordinator. Featured artists are JoAnn Bracey, Nancy Diwan, Marlene Dickshinski, Bud Ellis, Amanda Farris, Madeline Gavin, Irma Herzog, Judi Hostetter, Rena Malone, Lynne Mayer, Denton Ridge, Carol Ruocco and Linda Rugina.
The Introduction to Oil Painting exhibit features beginning artists who have completed the class presented by local artist, Judi Hostetter. “This project was designed to capture the interest of individuals who have an interest in art, but perhaps have not had previous painting experience. It gave them an opportunity to explore the creative side within themselves and perhaps spark a lively interest that will result in a lifelong pursuit of painting," stated Mrs. Hostetter. The oil painting class was sponsored by the ARTS Build Community Cultural Connections grant. Featured artists are: Cecilia Chang, Joyce Dudley, Mary Jett, Norma Jo Hamilton, Polly Kettering, Brij Singh, Myola B. Spivey, Dotty Volz and Deborah Yeary.
