Army Veteran Was Well-Known Office Supply Salesman

Carl Joe Banister, 84, Rossville, died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at a local hospital.

Carl was a long time resident of the north Georgia area for the past 50 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe where he served as a deacon. Carl was a well-known area office supply salesman, having worked with Ivan Allen Co. and P. & S. School Supply. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a corporal.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Hassie Banister, and brothers, Donald and Jack Banister.

Known as “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren, Mr. Banister loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed his wife’s wonderful home-cooked meals and family gatherings for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. He liked watching the Atlanta Braves on television. He enjoyed reading and staying knowledgeable about current events. He had a dry sense of humor and a quick wit. His steady, loving way as a husband, father, and grandfather will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Bernice Banister; son, Tim (Lisa) Banister, Chickamauga; daughter, Carla (Lamar) Wyatt, Ringgold; grandchildren, Stephen (Lindsay) Wyatt, Joshua Wyatt, Christopher Banister, and Laura Banister; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28,at Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Thomas officiating.  Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m.
