WTCI Celebrates Family Day And Chattanooga's Anniversary During CHA175

  • Tuesday, November 4, 2014

WTCI, Chattanooga’s community PBS station, has been the city’s storyteller for over 40 years and is honored to be a part of the events celebrating the 175th anniversary of the city’s charter. Join WTCI and the Chattanooga History Center at Family Day to enjoy the History Makers series honoring the people and organizations that changed the landscape of our city.

The City of Chattanooga has launched CHA175, a week-long celebration of the 175th anniversary of Chattanooga as a city, and WTCI is taking PBS KIDS fun to the party at the annual Family Day event. A strategic partnership with the Chattanooga History Center has produced a series called History Makers. These annual documentaries are premiered at the History Center’s fundraising luncheons and can be seen online at http://www.wtcitv.org/watch-online/history-makers/. Selected episodes of this series will be presented at Family Day by members of the Chattanooga History Center.

Officials said, "Have you always wondered what inspired Jack Lupton’s philanthropy? Do you know the story of the Howard Class of 1960 and the revolutionary peaceful protests they held in downtown Chattanooga? What about the Dismembered Tennesseans and their leader, Fletcher Bright? You and your family can watch these programs online anytime and enjoy learning about the people, places and organizations that have made Chattanooga one of America’s favorite cities to celebrate.

"Family Day is a great opportunity for children and families to visit their community PBS station, enjoy green screen activities, facepainting, tour a fire truck and watch a puppet show. PBS KIDS fans will get to have their pictures taken with Super WHY!, Martha Speaks, Clifford and Peg + Cat. Who wouldn’t love to have a meet and greet with their favorite PBS KIDS character? With activities and programming throughout the day this celebration is just another way for WTCI and PBS to support families, education and the community spirit that makes Chattanooga such a strong city."

Visit WTCI for Family Day and join in celebrating the city.
