Lee Wins 3-0 Over Union

  • Sunday, November 9, 2014
The Lee volleyball team wrapped up the 2014 season with a 3-0 sweep of Union University on Saturday evening in Walker Arena.

The Lady Flames sent three seniors (Lauren Williams, Latrice Johnson and Patty Orozco) out on a high note as they completed the season sweep of the Lady Bulldogs while winning their third straight conference match.

Lee fired past Union by a score of 25-14 in the first two sets.
The Lady Bulldogs closed the margin in set three but were not able to avoid the sweep, falling 25-19 in the third and final set.

Fittingly enough the final point of the evening was put away by Williams who tallied eight kills on a sizzling .667 attack percentage. "The team was set on letting Lauren win the final point," said coach Andrea Hudson. "We were just going to keep setting her up. She had such a great night tonight.

"All of our seniors played great and I was very happy they were able to go out with a win. Patty had a great night with a .750 hitting percentage and Latrice had a great passing night," added Hudson.

Johnson finished with four kills and two aces while Orozco had six kills and no errors on eight total attacks. Brooke Wilsman added eight slams and Sadie Johnson set the offense up with 18 assists.

As a team the Lady Flames were very efficient in the attack as they registered a .431 hitting percentage for the match. Lee hit at a .611 clip in the opening set and committed just five total attack errors the entire night.

Union was led by Ceciley Blanchard's seven kills. Savannah Hughes added six slams and Hannah Huguley led the team with 12 assists.  The Lady Bulldogs finish the year at 8-24 and were 3-17 in conference play.

The victory gives Lee a 13-17 record overall and an even 10-10 mark in Gulf South Conference. The Lady Flames will be eligible for NCAA Division II postseason play starting next year.

"I just loved the effort this team put forth all season," added Hudson. "They never gave up in the tough times and they learned how to deal with adversity and overcome it. I'm very proud of all of them."
