  • Thursday, December 11, 2014

A federal jury at Rome, Ga., on Thursday found former Murray County Chief Magistrate Bryant Cochran guilty on all six sex and corruption counts that he faced.

The jury heard final arguments and a charge from Judge Harold Murphy on Wednesday.

It will be Judge Murphy setting the sentence on Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m.

The jury deliberated until early afternoon.

The panel heard over a week of prosecution testimony, but only a few defense witnesses. Cochran chose not to testify.

He was charged with allegedly planting evidence on the vehicle of a woman who said she spurned his advances when she was seeking a warrant.

He was also charged with alleged sexual advances on his chief clerk.

Two Murray County police officers and the Bryant handyman are already in prison on the case.
