Software To Benefit Students In Construction Management Concentration At UTC

  • Thursday, December 11, 2014

Software valued at $650,000 was awarded to the Construction Management concentration in the Engineering Technology Management program at UTC.

“I’m really pleased with this generous gift given by the Synchro Software LTD, which will provide our students a better learning environment to become more real world ready when they graduate from the College of Engineering and Computer Science at UTC,” said Dr. Neslihan Alp, interim dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at UTC. “I also appreciate the assistance of Mr. Paul Baggett, lecturer in the Engineering Management and Technology Department, who played a major role in securing this gift.”

Synchro Software LTD will create a 3D construction project schedule from a Building Information Modeling (BIM) project, according to Mr. Baggett.

“The Synchro software is the cutting edge technology for scheduling work activities for construction projects including start dates, durations, and completion of work activities involving concrete, roof, plumbing, electrical. The purpose is to expose students to this technology now to make them more employable,” Mr. Baggett explained.

BIM is an electronic generated graphic that will allow a person to be able to take a virtual walk through a project, quantify items for estimating cost, and identify in building component conflicts, for instance, identifying the best location where heating and cooling ductwork, sprinkler pipe, and electrical wiring intersect.

“The Department of Engineering Management and Technology of the College of Engineering and Computer Science appreciates the support and the grant donated by Synchro.  This grant will help prepare the students majoring in the Construction Management Program and the Engineering Management Program for successful careers,” Mr. Baggett said.
