The Nancy Ward DAR chapter had a full agenda for its December meeting.
Whitney Torok was named Outstanding Junior Member for 2014.
There was a solemn but beautiful memorial to two members who were lost since the last meeting. Holley McDonald, was a younger member than Doris Hicks, but they both will leave a large gap in the chapter. They were active, energetic members with can-do attitudes. They will be missed.
Pauline Moore, chaplain of the chapter gave a moving tribute to the two members.
Regent Jo Hill inducted two new members to the chapter. Both of these ladies have already played active roles in various projects. Tammara Hicks and Christy Torok were inducted and welcomed by Regent Hill. Ms. Torok is the mother of Whitney Torok. Ms. Hicks was joined for pictures by her husband, Jimmy Yellowhorse and by her parents. Her mother is a prospective member for DAR.
After lunch, Jimmy played his flute and talked about the history of the Cherokee. Members learned some Cherokee words. Ms. Hicks sang Silent Night and Amazing Grace in the Cherokee language. It was a perfect ending to a Christmas celebration.
